Northman opens with a rough edge that some will find off-putting. The absinthe and lime combine into a sharp, medicinal bite that feels abrasive for the first several minutes. It lacks the smooth welcome found in more polished releases, and that initial harshness can be a barrier to enjoying what follows.
Once that top layer settles, the heart reveals saffron and rose resting on damp patchouli. The spice is earthy rather than bright, and the flower adds a dusty, powdery texture. It feels heavy and resinous, leaning into the amber and balsamic accords that define the composition.
The base brings tolu balsam, labdanum, and vanilla. These elements create a thick, sticky warmth that wraps around the skin. It is a dense, woody profile suited for heavy coats and dimly lit streets where the air is cold. The smoky incense lingers throughout, tying the citrus to the resin.
The scent sits like a thick wool coat draped over a velvet chair in a room lit only by a low fire.
