Character
Black currant runs through Enchanted Forest from top to bottom, first as a tart, leafy note alongside rosemary and pink pepper, then again in the heart as a darker, winier fruit next to rose and honeysuckle. Red wine and rum in the opening give that fruit an almost fermented edge, unusual and a little sharp before the composition settles.
Balsam fir, cedar and oakmoss anchor the base, green and resinous, joined by opoponax, Siam benzoin, vanilla, patchouli, amber and musk for a sweet, soft-spiced finish. Bertrand Duchaufour worked on this one, launched in 2012, and the result is a genuinely dense composition, thick with green, resinous material from top to base.
With that many notes working at once, Enchanted Forest never settles into one clear shape, it keeps shifting between fruity, green and sweet-spiced territory depending on which layer catches your attention. It suits cooler weather especially well, strong through fall and winter with spring and even summer still holding up.
How long it holds up is unremarkable, right in the average range, and the trail settles into a close, warm cloud that anyone standing nearby will pick up on quickly. Enchanted Forest rewards patience, a maximalist fragrance built from a genuinely long list of raw materials, dense enough to feel like a small forest condensed into a bottle.
