Our take

This is not a perfume for the timid. It opens with a blast of birch tar that feels less like smoke from a campfire and more like the charred skeleton of a cabin after a wildfire, immediately tempered by a sharp, almost medicinal cardamom and a ginger that flickers with nervous energy. The heart reveals a tarry leather accord, where incense struggles to find purchase against castoreum and civet, those animalic notes that smell of warm fur and raw earth. The drydown is where the fragrance finally settles, a dense mat of guaiac wood, tobacco, and a very restrained agarwood, all wrapped in a salty ambergris that keeps things from turning purely feral.

The overall impression is of a leather-bound journal that has been soaked in peat smoke and left to cure in a crumbling stone cellar. It feels dense, dark, and proudly synthetic in its cruelty, a niche construction that refuses to soothe. With a longevity and sillage that sit at a respectable 3.6 and 3.3 respectively, it announces itself without bullying the room. This is for the person who wants to smell like a secret, not a compliment. Skip it if you prefer clean ambroxan or sweet vanilla, as the animalic core is unapologetically confrontational. Wear it on a bitter winter night, maybe to a dimly lit jazz club or a long walk through a frozen forest where the cold air forces the tar and musk to huddle closer to your skin. Can a perfume be a dare that you give yourself?
