Thaqaf opens with a busy, slightly cluttered fruit arrangement that can feel crowded before the structure settles. Black currant, peach, and pear sit beside bergamot and ginger, while clary sage tries to keep the edges clean. The first impression is sweet and juicy, but the mix carries a synthetic sharpness that some will find abrasive rather than bright.
The heart introduces cashmere wood, Bulgarian rose, and lily-of-the-valley, joined by cyclamen and peony. Patchouli and ambergris add weight here, pulling the florals toward a resinous, slightly damp texture. The transition is not seamless, and the floral side can feel thin against the heavier base materials that start pushing through early.
Oud and sandalwood anchor the drydown, supported by Haitian vetiver, moss, vanilla, and white musk. Ambroxan adds a modern, clean lift that keeps the woods from feeling too dense. The result is a woody amber with musky and powdery facets, fresh and aromatic in small doses but never subtle.
The fruit lingers longer than expected, rubbing against the oud in a way that feels restless. Patchouli repeats in two stages, tying the heart and base together while the vanilla softens the sharper edges. It suits cooler evenings and formal settings, though anyone sensitive to sweet openings or heavy amber accords may find the balance uneven
