Character
Bergamot and grapefruit lead the opening with a bright, slightly bitter citrus that feels clean and immediate. The fruit is not sweet. It provides a sharp lift that cuts through the air before the spices arrive. Black pepper and Sichuan pepper bring a dry, tingling heat to the heart, while saffron adds a faint metallic edge that keeps the blend from feeling rustic. Elemi sits between the citrus and the resin, giving the center of the composition a pale, airy resinous quality that lightens the heavier spices without softening their bite.
Tobacco and leather form the base with a dark, slightly rough texture. The tobacco is dry and leafy rather than sugary, and the leather reads as a smooth hide with minimal polish. Vetiver grounds the finish with an earthy, root-like dryness that pulls the warmer notes back toward something more restrained. The metallic accord from the heart lingers here, giving the drydown a cool surface that sits against the warmth of the spices. It feels composed and steady, with each layer clearly defined rather than blurred together.
The overall impression suits a cold night when the air is sharp and the streetlights reflect off wet pavement. A coat collar turned up against the wind pairs well with the dry heat of the pepper and the smooth weight of the leather.
