The door swings shut and the street noise drops away. Black currant gleams against bergamot in the first breath, bright and slightly tart, while elemi adds a resinous lift that keeps the entrance from feeling heavy. Rose soon takes the center, supported by geranium and the green snap of violet leaf, but the flowers do not float. Patchouli and coffee anchor them, with labdanum and orris lending a grounded, slightly powdery weight that lets the scent hold its place in the room without stretching beyond the person who wears it. Musk softens the edges so the composition feels close and personal rather than expansive.
The air in the dim lounge carries a mix of polished wood and warm skin. Here the rose deepens, no longer fresh but saturated, while the currant note lingers like a memory of something eaten earlier in the evening. Coffee threads through the petals, giving the flowers a bitter contrast that stops the blend from leaning sweet. Geranium sharpens the edges just enough to keep the floral heart from turning lazy, and violet leaf adds a cool green flicker that surfaces now and then against the darker base.
Nathalie Koobus composed this Molton Brown release to stay present through a long evening, the kind where conversations stretch and glasses are refilled more than once.
