Our take

Baikal announces itself with a briny slap of sea notes and grapefruit, a citrus spike that cuts through what might otherwise be a welcome dose of damp wood. The heart tries to wrangle that marine blast with cedar and a strangely tart rhubarb, but the pineapple feels canned, syrupy, and the iris powders everything over like a cheap cosmetic compact. Underneath, vetiver and frankincense offer a faintly smoky, earthy base, but they wrestle with patchouli and sandal that are too polite to make a real impression. The whole affair is a glass of cloudy lake water: you see the promise of depth, but it’s mostly surface tension and a faintly synthetic shimmer.

It’s light, barely there after an hour (longevity barely scrapes a 2), and the sillage is a whisper you have to lean in to catch. Given the notes, this should feel refreshing, but the execution is watery in the worst sense. It suits someone who wants a barely-there aquatic for a hot summer afternoon, maybe at a breezy cafe terrace. But if you want projection, complexity, or anything that lasts past the train ride, skip it. This is a splash-and-forget fragrance, best worn on a day you don’t want to think about fragrance at all.
