Our take

You want something that smells expensive but costs far less than a dinner out. This Jeanne Arthes release opens with a bright, sunny pineapple note that feels lifted rather than heavy, with lemon and ginger adding a sharp, clean sting. At first it reads almost tropical, but the ginger keeps it from turning into a fruit salad.

Shortly after, the scent moves into something drier and more serious. Lavender and myrrh step in to pull the sweetness back, giving the middle a slightly medicinal, balsamic edge. It is not a quiet transition. The myrrh adds a dark, resinous weight that makes the fragrance feel more grown-up than its fruity opening suggests.

As it settles, the base brings in tonka bean, vanilla, and cedar. The vanilla here is warm and slightly powdery, not loud or cloying, while the cedar gives it a dry, woody backbone. It leans sweet overall, but the wood and spice keep it from feeling juvenile. The synthetic edge shows in the drydown, where the vanilla leans a bit plastic, but the price makes that easy to forgive.

It fits best on a man who likes to smell put-together without trying too hard, for a date night or a winter party where a playful, sweet-leaning scent will not feel out of place.
