Our take

Romantic by Jeanne Arthes opens with a spritz of sheer freesia and tart black currant blossom, a brief citrusy shimmer that quickly surrenders to a dense, powdery rose-patchouli heart. This is not the dewy rose of a fresh bouquet but a pressed, dried version, the kind you find in a sachet at the bottom of an old drawer. The drydown folds in vanilla and tonka bean, sweetened to a cloying edge by white musk, which smothers any remaining nuance into a soft, fuzzy blur. The overall character is a thick floral vanilla, like a cheap lace handkerchief soaked in drugstore perfume and left to air out in a stuffy powder room.

It leans synthetic and muddled, more mainstream drugstore than niche, and the numbers confirm the impression: longevity barely brushes three hours, sillage hovers just above skin. This is a spring or fall daytime spritz for the woman who wants a sweet, inoffensive cloud of rose and vanilla, nothing complicated, nothing demanding. If you need projection or endurance, skip it. If you love a delicate gourmand floral that fades into a powdery whisper, it works as a casual, no-commitment layer for a lazy Sunday brunch or a quick errand. But don’t expect romance it promises, just a polite, forgettable scent that evaporates before the date ends.
