Our take

Parfum Lab builds Élixir du Désert as a thick, resinous walk through a market at night. The opening hits with lavender and caramel, brightened by grapefruit and bergamot, while ginger adds a sharp bite. It is a strange first impression, sweet and herbal at once, with the citrus peeling away quickly to leave a sticky, aromatic core. Cloves and jasmine sit beside the lavender in the heart, pushing the blend toward a spiced floral that feels heavy rather than airy.

The base is where the fragrance settles into its true personality. Patchouli and moss ground the sweetness of vanilla and tonka bean, while amber and labdanum create a golden, resinous haze. Cedar and vetiver add a dry, woody edge that keeps the caramel from becoming too soft. Musk lingers in the background, rounding out the blend into something that feels warm and enveloping. This is a scent for dim lighting and close conversations, a composition that thrives in the heat of a crowded room where the air is thick with smoke and music.

Samuel Moraes composed a fragrance that wears its weight with confidence, but the balance leans too far into the gourmand side for some. The caramel and vanilla are potent, and the cloves amplify the heat in a way that can feel abrasive on the skin. It is a demanding scent that requires a specific taste, as the sweetness never fully recedes behind the woods. If you prefer clean, transparent aromatics, this dense and spicy blend will feel overwhelming.
