Our take

Durian usually shuts a room down, yet here it opens the door and walks in holding a flute of champagne. The cherry is dark and sliced thin, not the bright red syrup found in a candy shop. You expect sugar to rush the stage, but the champagne bubbles cut the heaviness before it settles. Lime appears in the heart, sharp and green, pulling the honey away from a sticky fate. That honey is real, the kind that has crystallized at the bottom of a jar. Mimosa and heliotrope try to soften the edges, but the immortelle is having none of it. It smells of hay and dry straw, a golden brown color in the middle of all that liquid fruit. Leather creaks in the background, not like a new jacket, but like an old armchair that has soaked up years of pipe tobacco and woodsmoke.

The moss grounds the sweetness into the forest floor after a rain, where the vanilla feels damp rather than baked. Then the woods arrive. Oud and patchouli are heavy hitters, but the vetiver and cedar keep them from turning murky. It smells like wearing a silk dress while walking through a rotting orchard that somehow smells like expensive perfume. The overall effect is aldehydic and herbal, a sparkling dust that settles on the skin. It fits a morning where the air is cool enough to see your breath, standing in a garden where the flowers are dying beautifully. A slice of fruit left on a cedar fence post.
