Our take

Magic by Celine opens with a surprising tang of clementine and pear, but the rose and coriander immediately pull it toward something more sophisticated, a polished femme fatale hiding a piece of hard candy in her glove. That sweet floral chypre structure was Sophia Grojsman’s signature, and here she teases with orchid and lily-of-the-valley before the ylang-ylang and jasmine take over, creamy but never syrupy. The drydown settles into a soft amber with sandalwood and patchouli, a sprinkle of musk that keeps it from going dusty. The overall character is like a silk scarf left in a drawer of dried rose petals and cinnamon bark: delicate, slightly powdery, but with a woody spine that stops it from floating away.

It feels mainstream in the best sense, a polished 1990s floral chypre with enough sweetness to be approachable and enough complexity to hold attention. The longevity is a modest three and a half hours, and the sillage stays close, so don’t expect a room-filler. That moderate performance makes it perfect for daytime wear, especially in fall and winter, when the amber and patchouli warm up nicely. It suits someone who wants a soft, feminine presence without shouting, someone who enjoys a touch of powder and fruit but prefers not to smell like a cupcake. Skip it if you crave beast-mode projection or sharp green edges. This is a quiet, confident scent for crisp air and cashmere.
