Our take

The citrus opening arrives bright and quick, with orange and pink pepper giving a brief spark before the heavier elements take hold. Freesia adds a soft floral lift that keeps the start from feeling too sharp. This is not a fragrance that lives in the top notes. It moves fast into a resinous heart where myrrh and labdanum create a warm, sticky amber glow, while cypriol pushes in with an earthy, slightly smoky edge. The transition feels deliberate, pulling the scent away from freshness and into something grounded and dark.

The drydown is where HWY 190 settles into its true identity. Vanilla and vetiver intertwine with cedar to form a woody, balsamic base that feels substantial against a cool, gray sky and a jacket thrown over a sweater. It smells like resinous wood and sweet earth, a combination that feels at home in damp air and changing leaves. Composed by Hamid Merati-Kashani, it aims for a sophisticated balance of amber and wood. The limitation here is the vanilla. It leans a bit synthetic in the base, lacking the natural depth found in the resin notes, which keeps the scent from feeling completely premium.
