Pink pepper and saffron crackle against ginger and coriander in the first moments, a bright and resinous lift that smells like heat rising from dry soil. The spices carry a slight bite that keeps the opening from feeling polished or safe.
Fig sits beside orris in the heart, its rounded fruit softened by the pale, powdered root. Cedar slips between them, giving the center a dry backbone so the sweetness stays anchored rather than drifting into something edible.
Thanaka wood and vetiver run deep through the base, supported by patchouli, guaiac, and sandalwood. Musk and oud add a resinous weight that clings to fabric and skin through a full day of wear, while the scent stays near the body rather than reaching outward.
The blend leans heavily on earthy and powdery accords, which can feel flat on skin that expects a clearer floral or citrus spark. Composed by Ruth Mastenbroek for Gabar in 2021, No. II Ground suits a quiet street under gray sky and fallen leaves, yet the orris and fig combination sometimes reads more muted than the wood stack promises.
