A man stands on the edge of a chilled, dewy park, pulling a wool coat tighter against the morning air. The fragrance greets him immediately. It opens with a brisk, sun-warmed splash of Calabrian bergamot, Sicilian lemon, and Sicilian orange, bright and textured like peeling a piece of fruit with cold hands. That sharp citrus spark fades into something unexpectedly tender: red fruits, soft and slightly candied, bridge the gap between the sharp top and the rich base. The morning air carries the scent as it settles close to the skin. The drydown is the true character here. Madagascar vanilla and amber arrive heavy and resinous, wrapped in a clean, slightly dated blanket of white musk. It feels powdery and aromatic, a throwback to a different era of men’s perfumery where sweetness was allowed to be loud and unapologetic. The vanilla is deep and almost boozy, cut by the musk’s sterile edge. He looks out at the bare trees, the scent a warm, amber-hued shield against the gray sky. It is a fragrance of contrasts: the brightness of a Southern Italian grove and the heavy, musky warmth of a winter fireplace, all resting finally on a bed of vanilla.
