Aldehydes give the opening a sparkling, powdery lift that has nothing to do with any single flower, more mineral fizz than bloom, with a thin citrus edge from lemon and bergamot underneath. Ylang-ylang and neroli soften that quickly, and by the time rose and jasmine take hold in the heart, everything turns soft and a little abstract, like flowers seen through frosted glass.
Civet and moss darken the base, musky and earthy beneath all that iris and sandalwood, and this is where the fragrance settles into a hold that keeps going long after the top notes have moved on, staying close enough to register as a modest cloud that moves with the wearer rather than an announcement to the room. Vanilla and amber warm the structure without sweetening it much.
Vetiver and patchouli keep the drydown dry, grounding what could otherwise be a very powdery ride. Cooler months are when this makes the most sense, worn from fall into winter, when powdery, earthy scents feel most at home. It rewards patience: let the aldehydes settle before judging the whole thing, and give the iris time to show up properly.
