Our take

Beige opens with a drowsy, sun-warmed burst of frangipani and freesia, the flowers almost syrupy, like nectar left to thicken in a honeycomb. Jacques Polge lets the honey accord bloom early, wrapping the white florals in a sweet, lactonic haze that feels less tropical and more like the last hot hour of a spring afternoon. Hawthorn adds a soft, powdery edge, a suggestion of almond skin and clean linen. The whole composition is a single image: a cashmere throw tossed over a wicker chair in a conservatory, the air still and sweet with pollen. It is refined, never cloying, but definitely on the sweet side of floral, with a polished smoothness that feels more mainstream than niche, though the quality of materials is evident.

Its weakness is no secret. With a longevity barely above average and sillage that stays close, this is a whisper, not a declaration. You will need to reapply or press your nose to your wrist. That suits the woman who wants her fragrance to feel like an intimate secret, a soft glow rather than a spotlight. Skip it if you demand projection or a night-out beast. Beige is for day hours only, best in spring when the air is still cool enough to catch that honeyed warmth, and for occasions that ask for quiet elegance. A garden brunch, a gallery opening, a lazy afternoon tea. It is lovely, but it asks you to lean in.
