Our take

Cool evenings by a fireplace are where Coromandel wants to be worn, in step with a season split that favors fall and winter heavily. Bitter orange, neroli and citruses open bright, but they burn off fast, giving way almost immediately to a patchouli-heavy heart that sets the real tone.

Rose and jasmine add florals to the patchouli, but they stay in the background, offering texture without pulling focus from the patchouli itself, while orris brings a powdery cushion underneath. By the base, white chocolate and Tahitian vanilla bring real sweetness, and incense and olibanum add a smoky, resinous weight that cuts through the sweetness.

Benzoin and musk round out the drydown, patchouli-earthy and warm, the whole thing settling into a plush, incense-heavy interior far removed from the bright citrus that opened it.

Hold on skin runs long, easily carrying the patchouli and incense well past the point where the citrus has disappeared, and projection holds at a modest bubble, present to whoever's nearby, warm rather than loud. Jacques Polge built something that leans into resin and dried fruit long before the citrus opening is forgotten, an interior scent for cold rooms and quiet evenings.
