Our take

Jegloff is a leather fragrance for people who want the material to dominate the room. The opening hits with lemon, bergamot, and orange, but the citrus is there to cut the density rather than lead the composition. Once the brightness clears, jasmine sambac, orange blossom, rose, and tea rose push forward with a heavy white floral weight that sits directly on top of birch tar and leather. Labdanum and oakmoss add an earthy, animalic edge that keeps the florals from reading clean. Sandalwood and vanilla smooth the sharper corners without hiding the smoke. The result is a bold, resinous profile that feels more at home in a niche cabinet than on a department store shelf, built for cool weather and evening wear where that leather can breathe.

The argument falls apart for anyone who expects a balanced ratio between flower and hide. The leather and birch tar are so assertive that the jasmine and rose struggle to register as distinct shapes, flattening into a single heavy layer. Vanilla and musk try to round it out, but they cannot soften the tar enough to make this approachable for daily use. It is also unforgiving on skin chemistry, where the oakmoss can turn sharp and medicinal. Jegloff demands a wearer who enjoys that roughness and does not mind a composition that leans so far into smoke that the florals nearly vanish.
