Bois Primitif opens with a perplexing but thrilling jolt: cinnamon sharpened by the tang of blueberry, all held together with bergamot’s bright citrus. That blueberry note is no syrupy syrup, it’s a wild, slightly tart berry crushed against spice, and it gives the first five minutes a fruit-forward warmth that feels more autumnal than summery. Then lavender enters, not the herbal barbershop kind but a dusty, almost hay-like lavender, and it slowly tangles with a restrained Damask rose that’s more jammy than dewy. The base settles into a comfortable vanilla-musk-ambroxan blanket, with cedar splintering through to keep it from collapsing into pure sweetness. The whole thing sits close: sillage is modest, hovering around a 3, and longevity barely clears four hours, which is a shame because the cinnamon and lavender interplay deserves more time to stretch. This is a fragrance that feels like a hand-carved wooden bowl, stained with berry juice and still warm from a baker’s palm, lined with crushed velvet petals and dusted with powdered vanilla. It’s lightly sweet and warmly spicy, leaning slightly synthetic in the ambroxan heart, but it avoids cheap candy territory. Best wear it when the leaves are turning and you want something cozy without drowning in gourmand glaze. Spring evenings also work if you skip heavy layers. Suits those who like amber-adjacent scents with a tart edge; skip it if you demand projection or if blueberry and cinnamon together sound like a candle rather than a perfume.
