Most citrus-forward perfumes lean into brightness and stop there, serving up a cheerful but shallow opening that disappears within an hour or two. Male 01 by Male Lab Pour Homme refuses to follow that script. It opens with a dense, sunlit tangle of tangerine, green orange, basil, bergamot, and Sicilian lemon, but the citrus here is textured rather than sharp. The herbs and fruits feel pressed together, oily and aromatic, more like a grove at midday than a spritz from a bathroom shelf. As it develops, the scent moves into a heart of lavender, nutmeg, cloves, lily, cinnamon, jasmine, and rose. It is a crowded, slightly chaotic transition, with the spices and florals wrestling for space. The cinnamon and cloves push warm and dry, while the jasmine and rose add a soft, powdery haze that keeps the blend from turning aggressively medicinal.
The base settles into a classic masculine-leaning foundation of sandalwood, patchouli, musk, oakmoss, vetiver, and cedar. It is woody, earthy, and mossy in a way that feels grounded and serious, pulling the brighter opening down into something more substantial. The patchouli and vetiver add a damp, rooty edge that keeps the sweetness of the orange and rose in check. This is not a safe, office-appropriate scent. It carries a rough, slightly untamed energy, better suited to someone who wants to smell distinctive and unpolished. Wear it on a weekend when the plan is open and the atmosphere is casual, or any time the goal is to avoid blending into the background.
