U by Ungaro for Him
Fragrance notes
Character
U by Ungaro for Him opens with a sharp, slightly sour pomegranate and grapefruit pairing that can feel thin and a bit harsh on first spray. The citrus lacks roundness and comes across as more acidic than bright, which may put off those who prefer a smoother entrance.
The heart introduces immortelle, cardamom, and cedar. Immortelle brings a dense, maple-like sweetness that leans heavily into the amber accord, while cardamom adds a brisk, aromatic lift. Cedar grounds the middle with a dry, woody spine that keeps the spices from becoming too dense.
In the base, tonka bean and Peru balsam push the sweetness further, supported by patchouli and vetiver. The result is a warm, balsamic trail that feels thick and resinous. Vanilla and sweet accords dominate here, making the drydown cozy but noticeably rich for a daytime setting.
This richness is the fragrance's main drawback. The heavy tonka and balsam can feel too warm and sticky when the sun is high, and the sharp opening does not quite balance the sugary finish. It is a pleasant scent, but the lack of freshness in its later stages limits how comfortably it wears during bright hours.
