Our take

Central Park West opens with a peppered slap of narcissus and ylang-ylang that feels almost confrontational, like a fresh blossom that dares you to smell it too closely. That initial brightness is both sweet and sharp, laced with a green, almost lactonic creaminess that quickly takes over. The heart is a dense bouquet of gardenia and jasmine, but instead of going full tropical or heady, Bond No 9 pulls it back with orris root and linden blossom, which dust the flowers with a soft, powdery earthiness. By the dry down, it settles into a clean woody musk with vetiver and oakmoss, a little straightforward but undeniably pleasant. If this fragrance were a room, it would be a white sofa on a sun-drenched terrace overlooking trees, pristine but slightly stiff. It feels moderately natural, leaning more into polished mainstream territory, with decent longevity of around five to six hours and a sillage that stays close to skin after the first hour. It wears best in spring and early summer, during the day, when its floral sweetness can breathe without choking anyone. Who should wear it? Someone who wants a white floral that doesn’t scream, who prefers gardenia tempered by clean woods rather than tuberose garlands. Who should skip it? Anyone looking for depth, projection, or a daring twist. It is lovely but safe, a polite nod to the Upper West Side, not a party in it.
