Our take

Chevalier De La Nuit opens with a citrus flash that is quickly smothered by Indonesian patchouli leaf, so bitter and green it feels like chewing on a root pulled straight from wet earth. The lemon and bitter orange are there only to announce the darkness, not to brighten it. Within minutes, Madagascar cloves snap through, sharp and almost medicinal, while vetiver roots around beneath, pulling the whole composition into a woody, slightly powdery fog. The jasmine is barely a whisper, a ghost of white petals crushed underfoot. On the dry down, Bourbon vanilla and sandalwood emerge, but this is not a cozy gourmand. The eucalyptus cuts through any sweetness like a cold draft under a door, and white musk dusts everything in a faint, powdery residue.

The overall character is a night in a Victorian apothecary, where dried herbs hang from the ceiling and the floorboards creak with every step. It feels natural and slightly abrasive, leaning niche in its refusal to pander. The longevity is decent, around 3.77, but the sillage hovers at 3.29, sitting close to the skin after an hour. That is the honest weakness: it retreats too quickly for a scent named for a nocturnal knight. Who should wear it? Anyone who wants a brooding, unisex patina of spice and earth, especially in fall and winter, when the cool air amplifies the balsamic warmth. Skip it if you prefer bright, sweet, or crowd-pleasing scents. Wear it to a dimly lit bar or a late walk under bare trees.
