Our take

A pastry shop in an old quarter gives off a warm, sugary breath that has nothing to do with desserts. The tonka bean and heliotrope open with a soft, almond-like creaminess that feels more like warm skin than a sugar glaze. Vanilla arrives shortly after, but it is not the edible kind. It is dry, almost dusty, and it leans into the heliotrope rather than floating above it. There is a leather note in the heart that catches on the vanilla like a wool coat brushing against a suede cuff. It does not smell like a handbag. It smells like the inside of a vintage car that has been sitting in the sun, if the seats were wiped down with something sweet and powdery.

The white musk and sandalwood in the base pull everything toward a clean, pale wood finish. It keeps the deeper notes from turning heavy, though the whole composition stays close and quiet. Someone expecting a bold entrance will be disappointed. The movement here is internal. It shifts from a soft, nutty cream to a dry, woody skin scent without ever announcing the change. The limitation is that it can feel a bit indecisive. It never fully commits to being a gourmand or a woody scent, so it ends up sitting in the middle, pleasant and polished but never quite resolved.
