Our take

Presumed Innocence opens with a peach note that leans heavily into candy territory. The fruit is syrupy and bright, sitting atop orange blossom that feels more like a sweetened tea than a fresh flower. For those who prefer a crisp, natural citrus opening, this initial burst can feel a bit too sugary and artificial. It lacks the tart edge that would balance the sugar, presenting a very gourmand entrance that might catch the wrong person off guard.

The heart settles into a classic white floral blend where damask rose and jasmine take the lead. Violet adds a powdery softness that bridges the gap between the sweet top and the heavy base. While the flowers are pleasant, they are wrapped in a synthetic haze that prevents them from smelling truly fresh. The composition feels busy here, with too many floral threads competing for attention rather than weaving together into a single, clear voice.

As the scent develops, the base introduces oud and saffron alongside vanilla and patchouli. The mood turns dark and resinous, fitting for a night out where the air is warm and the lights are low. Ambergis and white musk provide a skin-like warmth that supports the heavier woods. The transition from the candied opening to this spicy, musky foundation is dramatic, moving from playful to serious in a few short steps.

The biggest drawback remains the synthetic quality that lingers throughout the wear. The vanilla and musk in the drydown feel manufactured rather than rich, leaving a slightly plastic trail behind the beautiful rose and oud. It is a fragrance that promises a complex journey but delivers a scent that often smells like a chemical approximation of luxury rather than the real thing.
