Zan opens with a swift rush of incense and Guatemalan cardamom that feels bright rather than cloistered. The smoke is present from the first spray, but it stays clean and dry, never heavy enough to dim the crisp green edge of the spice. There is a polished clarity here that suits a sunlit room and a day already in motion.
Ambrette and ambrox super take over quickly, adding a soft floral lift and a warm amber glow. The musk moves in alongside them, giving the blend a smooth, powdery texture that feels modern and expensive. Cedar anchors the heart with a pale wood tone that keeps the sweetness from becoming plush.
Pink pepper flickers through the base like a tiny spark, adding a soft spicy bite that keeps the musky accord from feeling too settled. The overall impression is balsamic and aromatic, walking a line between skin scent and statement without leaning fully into either. It smells like a deliberate choice rather than a default.
The one limitation is that the incense and cardamom stay close to their opening shapes instead of evolving. The cedar and pepper do not deepen, so the drydown mirrors the start more than it reshapes it. What you smell in the first minute is essentially what remains.
