A spritz of G by Harajuku Lovers is like cracking open a can of coconut cream soda on a scorching July afternoon, sticky sweet and unapologetically synthetic. It opens with a burst of red apple and mandarin, but the coconut note is the star from the first second, a sun-baked, almost candied coconut that feels more like a piña colada mix than the real thing. The heart tries to soften things with jasmine, freesia, and magnolia, but those florals are merely background singers to the loud, lactonic vanilla that dominates the show. By the dry down, cotton flower and sandalwood add a powdery, slightly plastic skin scent, but it’s fleeting, much like the longevity which clock in at a disappointing 2.75 out of 5. The sillage is similarly shy, hovering at 2.60, so you’ll be respraying every hour if you want anyone to notice.
This is a fragrance for the girl who wants to smell like a melting ice cream cone at the beach, not for someone seeking complexity or naturalistic depth. It is aggressively mainstream, almost artificially bright, and best reserved for the hottest summer days perfect for 98% of the season.
