Eseja (Эссе)
Fragrance notes
Character
Eseja opens with a cool, dewy breeze of lily-of-the-valley and violet, met by the soft, pollen-like dust of lilac and a faint tartness from black currant. It feels freshly cut rather than sugary, more morning garden than candy jar. The greens in the accord keep the sweetness from turning plush too early, and the flowers arrive in a wash instead of one at a time. Nothing here shouts. The entrance is polite, a little reserved, and very much a product of its era, when a department-store floral was expected to behave itself in polite company.
The heart deepens the white and yellow petals without losing that green thread. Rose and ylang-ylang add a gentle, honeyed weight, while tuberose and jasmine push the center toward a creamier, more diffuse floralcy. It is smooth rather than indolic, and the overall impression stays clean, as if the blooms were arranged in a glass vase rather than crushed into oil. There is a mild powderiness that begins to show here, not quite vintage-makeup, more like sunlit skin dusted with finishing powder. The fabric of the scent is fine, though the synthetics of the time are audible if you sniff closely.
What lingers longest is the base, and it is the most interesting part of the ride. Ambergris and civet bring a faint, skin-like warmth that tilts the flowers just a little animalic, not boldly so, but enough to keep the drydown from reading as pure soap. Cassia bourbon adds a thin, cinnamon-adjacent shiver that lands more as dryness than as spice. The powdery accord from earlier settles in to stay, now backed by a woody, slightly musky haze. By the end, Eseja is less a bouquet and more a soft, slightly civet-tinged floral powder that clings to fabric and collar.
