The evening air in the courtyard is cooling fast, but the stone walls still hold the day's heat. A small brazier burns in the corner, sending thin ribbons of incense upward, and someone has just set a bowl of fresh raspberries on the iron table. The fruit is tart and vivid, its juice staining the edges of the ceramic, while the smoke curls around the bowl and settles into the fabric of the chairs.
As the night deepens, the atmosphere grows heavier. Benzoin begins to coat the air with a thick, balsamic sweetness that feels like warm resin on the skin. The oud emerges from the background, dark and dry, lending a wooden weight to the scene. It does not shout across the courtyard. It sits close to the source, mixing with the lingering raspberry until the fruit smells less like a snack and more like a preserved compote left near a temple altar.
The smoke from the brazier has not disappeared. It has merged with the resin and the wood, creating a blanket of amber and warm spice that makes the space feel enclosed and private. The raspberry is still present, but it has lost its initial brightness, now behaving like a sweet accent inside a much larger, smoky structure. The air feels expensive and slightly austere, as if the courtyard belongs to a place of worship rather than a home.
The scent settles into the cool stone and the iron table, becoming part of the night itself. The blend of resin and wood feels permanent against the fading fruit. The air is thick with balsamic sweetness and dark, smoky oud.
