Our take

Continuum by TUMI opens with a brisk slap of green mandarin, sharp and almost metallic, before the amber and olibanum rush in to soften its edges. That resinous, churchy frankincense doesn’t linger in the pews, though; within minutes, the heart emerges as a dense, dusty tobacco leaf paired with orris root’s cold, lipstick-like powder and cistus incanus’s sticky labdanum sweetness. The drydown pulls everything into a suede-lined embrace, with a restrained oud that never turns barnyard, just whispers leather and wood against a clean musk base. The picture in my mind is a well-worn leather armchair in a dim, wood-paneled study, the ashtray cold but the pages of a travel journal still faintly perfumed with resin and citrus.

This is decidedly a night scent, winter in its bones, and it wears close to the skin. The sillage is modest, barely a two out of five, which feels almost deliberate, like something you catch in snatches rather than announce. Longevity settles around three and a half hours before it becomes a ghost, which for an oriental woody with oud and tobacco is a genuine disappointment, the composition deserves more staying power. It feels more niche than mainstream, leaning into that powdery, iris-heavy sweetness that can read as dated if you’re not careful.

This fragrance suits the man who dresses for his own pleasure, who prefers the texture of a cashmere scarf and the weight of a good book over the noise of a crowd. If you crave projection or a booming trail, look elsewhere. Wear it for a late dinner in November, for the quiet hour after a snowfall, when the world is muffled and your own company is enough.
