Cuir (2023)
Fragrance notes
Character
Cuir opens with a shock of violet leaf, sharp and green, almost metallic, like the first breath inside a showroom car with the doors just closed. The leather note that follows is clean and synthetic in the best sense, a polished suede stretched over a chassis of cool aquatic and ozonic accords. There’s no sweetness here, no comfort. As it develops, a faint animalic tension and a wisp of smoke rise, but they’re held at arm’s length, never allowed to muddy the composition. This is a scent that feels like sitting alone in a parked Mercedes during a sleet storm, the windows fogged, the leather interior still cold to the touch. It is thoroughly mainstream in its polish, yet the violet leaf and ozone give it an odd, futuristic glint that prevents banality. Longevity is reliable at around six hours, but sillage stays close, a personal cloak rather than a declaration. Who should wear it? Anyone who wants leather without the weight, something crisp enough for a winter office yet intimate enough for a night out. Skip it if you crave thick, smoky rawhide or beast mode presence. This one is a quiet loner, precise and cool, and its restraint is both its achievement and its limitation.
