Character
The air is cool enough that breath fogs near the ground, and a small group stands near a stone wall under a streetlamp that hums with a faint orange glow. One person leans forward to light a cigarette, and the moment the match strikes, the scent of raspberry and saffron rises from the fabric of a jacket. The fruit is sharp and slightly wet, cut immediately by the dry heat of the spice, which smells like crushed threads rubbed between thumb and finger.
Geranium pushes through next, its green stem scent cleaning the air around the group, followed by a rose that feels more like a petal pressed into a book than a fresh bouquet. It is not a soft flower here. The rose carries a metallic edge that catches against the saffron, turning the sweetness into something that feels deliberately arranged rather than naturally overflowing.
Smoke begins to gather near the feet as birch and oud settle into the scene, the wood smelling of charred timber and a dark resin that sticks to the back of the throat. Frankincense adds a church-like weight that pulls the entire atmosphere downward, anchoring the fruit and the flower to the cold stones where the group stands. The raspberry is still there, but it now tastes of something left out in the air too long.
The jacket sleeve brushes against the rough wall, releasing another wave of saffron and rose that mingles with the tobacco smoke drifting from the circle, the amber accord wrapping the sharper materials in a warmth that barely fights off the chill moving through the narrow street, the oud humming beneath
