Our take

Asja by Fendi opens like a lavish fruit compote, apricot and raspberry bleeding into peach with a sharp citrus tingle from bergamot and lemon. This is no shy spritz. Within minutes the florals crowd in, a whole operatic chorus of rose, jasmine, ylang ylang, mimosa, orchid, lily of the valley, and orris root, all tangled with honeyed carnation and a warm spice slap from cinnamon and nutmeg. The dry down settles into a soft, powdery oriental cradle of benzoin, sandalwood, amber, vanilla, and musk, with a whisper of styrax and cedar keeping it from going overly syrupy. The overall character reminds me of an ornate vintage brooch, heavy with gold filigree and a single fat pearl, too grand for a weekday but impossible to ignore.

With a rating above four and moderate longevity and sillage, this fragrance performs best in deep winter when its density can bloom without cloying. It leans sweet, powdery, and unabashedly floral, more old school than modern, and while it feels lushly natural in the honeyed heart, the synthetic powder of the orris and the sheer volume of notes make it feel deliberately constructed, almost theatrical. Who does this suit? Someone who wants to feel wrapped in a velvet chaise, not someone looking for crisp minimalism or a fresh citrus pick me up. Wear it at night to a gala or a candlelit dinner when you intend to leave a cloud of warm spice and petals behind. Can a fragrance this opulent ever feel casual? Not really, and that is exactly its point.
