Vanille Coco opens with a dollop of whipped cream that smells more like the aerosol can than the real thing, a plasticky banana note and a dusty heliotrope powder that feels stuck in a 2003 time capsule. Quickly, the vanilla and coconut rise to the surface, but this is no sun soaked tropical escape. The coconut is shy and synthetic, the vanilla a flat, syrupy sweetness with none of the depth you might hope for from a gourmand. Within an hour, the whole thing fades to a faint, powdery ghost of itself, a sheer veil of laundry vanilla and dessicated coconut flakes. This is the scent equivalent of a store bought pina colada mix dusted with baby powder. It has no sillage to speak of and fades faster than a tan on a cloudy day, which makes the price tag feel particularly stingy. If you want a cheap, cheerful, low commitment spritz for a warm afternoon when you need a quick hit of sweet nothing, this could work. It is purely a daytime scent, a summery impulse. But anyone expecting real coconut richness, lasting pleasure, or a hint of sophistication should walk on by. Is it a fragrance or just a fleeting vanilla scented whisper with a banana hiccup?
