Our take

Wormwood sits at the center of this composition, and that single choice decides who will enjoy it. Un Assenzio is built for the person who finds most citrus aromatics too bright and too clean. The opening brings bergamot, bitter orange, and lemon, but the coriander and lavender immediately pull those sunny edges into something greener and more textured. It does not try to refresh you on a hot afternoon. It uses that citrus to introduce an herbal heart that feels deliberate and composed.

The argument continues in the middle, where wormwood and fennel take over with a gentle bitterness that chamomile softens without hiding. Tonka bean adds a smooth warmth, yet the cardamom and palisander rosewood keep the blend dry rather than sweet. This is why the fragrance suits someone who prefers character over comfort. The base reinforces that stance through vetiver, cedar, and patchouli, with frankincense and labdanum lending a resinous weight that feels grounded and serious.

Denise Meles composed a scent that smells like walking past an old wooden apothecary cabinet, the drawers labeled in faded ink, the air inside cool and faintly dusty.
