Character
A narrow street in the old quarter is quiet after the last café table is cleared. Cool air drifts between stone walls while a single window glows above the cobbles. Inside that room, oud and incense rise from a wooden surface, heavy and dry, curling upward in a thin gray line. A slice of lemon rests nearby, its bright peel cutting the resinous weight so the air feels clear rather than thick. Rose enters more slowly, not as a bouquet but as a faint floral dust that settles around the smoke. Sandalwood sits beneath it all, smooth and pale, giving the resin something steady to rest on. The scent does not rush to announce itself. It occupies the corner of the room the way a lit candle occupies a table, present without demanding attention, changing the shape of the silence.
The door opens and the draft carries the mixture into the hallway, where the amber accord warms the air like a wool coat just taken from a closet. Metallic citrus flickers against the balsamic depth, sharp one moment and soft the next, while the smoky accord lingers in the fabric of the sleeves. It is a fragrance built from contrast, the fresh spice of saffron meeting the dark pull of oud, the orange note adding a brief flash of color before the wood returns. The evening stays in that room, held together by incense.
