Kary by Coyotl opens with a rush of cherry, marshmallow, chocolate, coffee, and cake. The cherry is bright and slightly tart, the marshmallow adds a soft, airy sugar, and the chocolate and coffee bring a dark, roasted edge. Cake rounds out the top with a baked, vanilla-adjacent sweetness. The heart returns to cherry and chocolate while adding cookie, liquor, and café expresso. The cookie note feels crumbly and buttery, the liquor adds a warm alcohol accord, and the expresso is sharper and more bitter than the opening coffee. These elements keep the gourmand theme heavy and dense rather than light or playful.

The base moves into cacao, oud, and myrrh. The cacao is dry and powdery, the oud adds a resinous wood that feels thick and slightly medicinal, and the myrrh brings a cool, incense-like bitterness. Together they strip away the sugar and leave a dark, spicy, and woody drydown that feels much more serious than the opening promised. The transition is abrupt rather than smooth, and the cacao and oud dominate so completely that the cherry and coffee disappear entirely. The result is a fragrance that loses its original character halfway through, leaving a dry, resin-heavy finish that may disappoint anyone who enjoyed the initial gourmand brightness.
