Coco de Mer Oud is for the person who already owns a heavy wardrobe and wants one more resinous layer to rotate in during cool weather. The opening places coco de mer next to lavender and lemon, a bright contrast that prepares the way for the heavier materials without pretending to be a daytime citrus. That initial lift is brief, and it is clearly there to serve what follows rather than to stand on its own.
The heart brings oud, leather, and rose together with sandalwood. The leather is prominent, and the rose does not soften it in a romantic direction so much as it adds a floral weight that keeps the resin from feeling flat. Sandalwood rounds the edges, but the overall impression stays dark and textured rather than polished.
Patchouli and ambergris in the base push the fragrance toward an animalic amber profile, with cashmere wood and cedar adding dry wood behind the sweetness. White musk is present, yet it never cleans the surface. This is a woody, balsamic composition that wears close to its accords and does not attempt to charm someone looking for fresh air or light greens.
