Our take

Trouble in Heaven opens with a strange, salty splash of Cascalone that feels like sea spray hitting a polished marble floor. Bergamot cuts through with a brief citrus gleam, but the aquatic note lingers, and for a moment you wonder if this Louboutin heel has stepped in a puddle. Then the iris and rose arrive, waxy and cool, powdered like vintage face powder compacted into a solid tablet. They sit on the skin without much warmth, held aloft by a dry amber base where patchouli and labdanum refuse to soften the edges. The tonka bean tries to sweeten the finish, but this is no gourmand indulgence — the whole thing is a stiff, polished orchid corsage pinned to a black wool coat at a funeral.

This is a fragrance that loves its own posture more than your comfort. It feels synthetic in the way a lacquered stiletto feels natural: deliberately, elegantly false. The longevity is moderate at best, and the sillage stays close, which is almost a relief given how prim and armored it smells. It thrives in fall and winter, best worn to an evening where you need armor but not volume. Skip it if you want something soft, organic, or radiant. This one looks you in the eye and doesn't blink, even if it disappears before midnight.
