Rum and cognac bring a rounded, boozy softness that avoids smelling like a literal drink, while patchouli and cedar give the center a dry, woody backbone. The patchouli leans earthy rather than polished, and the cedar keeps the resins from turning heavy.
The base settles into vanilla and musk, but the vanilla here is not a loud, candy-like sweetness. It feels smooth and slightly powdery, sitting close to the skin and blending into the musk. The musk adds a clean, faintly soft finish that rounds off the sharper edges from the opening. Throughout the wear, the scent stays firmly in the oriental vanilla family, but it never becomes cloying or overwhelming.
