Our take

If you’ve ever walked through a greenhouse after a spring downpour, with wet earth and crushed herbs underfoot and a basket of ripe peaches on the bench, you have the basic shape of gs01. Geza Schoen’s 2007 chypre fruity is a crowded garden in a bottle, opening with a chlorophyll blast of basil, grass, and bay leaf that snaps like a freshly broken stem. Lime and pink pepper add a citrusy spark, while carrot seed and African orange flower introduce a weird, almost dusty floral sweetness right from the start. The heart turns softer but no less packed: peach and water lily float over artemisia’s bitter green, with jasmine and freesia lending a polite, powdery bloom. That powder carries into the base, where rice and musk create a comforting, slightly savory texture, anchored by sandalwood, vetiver, and oakmoss. It’s a chypre built for daylight, scoring 92 percent spring wear and 100 percent daytime use, but the sillage is a whisper (2.73/5) and longevity barely stretches past three hours (3.26/5). That’s the honest weakness: this fragrance evaporates like morning dew. It feels natural in a carefully cultivated way, neither loud nor synthetic, but decidedly niche in its refusal to pander. Skip it if you want projection or a night out. Wear it for a quiet Sunday brunch or a stroll through a botanical garden, and accept that you’ll be the only one who notices it after an hour. That intimacy is the point.
