Our take

N° 5 Oud Apollon is a fragrance built for the person who wants a cold-weather walk to feel like an event. The opening pairs neroli with amber, and the citrus brightness does not float away. It sits close to the resin, creating a warm golden start that feels heavy rather than sparkling. That weight is the first reason this belongs outdoors in low light. The air needs to be cool enough to keep the amber from feeling flat, and the neroli needs that contrast to show its texture instead of its sweetness.

The heart turns to oud and leather. This is not a polished office leather. It is dry and slightly rough, and the oud beside it carries a woody depth that pushes the composition away from anything delicate. Tobacco and cacao wait in the base, and when they arrive the scent becomes rich and dark. The cacao adds a soft sweetness, but the tobacco keeps it grounded. The accords list white floral and fresh spicy, yet they never pull the fragrance toward something light. Everything here moves in one direction, and that direction is downward into warmth.

Jean Sauvage composed a scent that asks for a wool coat and a quiet street after sunset. It suits the wearer who enjoys a bold, resinous trail and does not mind standing out in a crowd that reached for something safe. Wear it when the evening is clear and the air bites a little, and let the tobacco and leather do the talking while the amber glows underneath.
