Avicenna
Fragrance notes
Character
Avicenna asks a lot before it gives anything back. The opening is a crowded, peppery wall of spice where cinnamon, ginger, and black pepper crash into bright tangerine and bergamot all at once. It feels busy and slightly abrasive for the first few minutes, as if the composition is trying to show off every ingredient in the bottle at the same time. That initial sharpness can be overwhelming if you prefer a gentle, quiet entrance, and it demands patience from the person wearing it.
Once the dust settles, the fragrance reveals its true weight. Three distinct roses join Egyptian jasmine and tuberose, but they do not float. Frankincense and elemi wrap the petals in a resinous smoke, while orange blossom adds a faint, waxy green lift. The base pulls everything into a deep, golden warmth through beeswax, Bourbon vanilla, and Siam benzoin. It smells like standing near a carved wooden table lit by candlelight, with a heavy wool coat on your shoulders and a complex, balsamic air surrounding you.
The density is the point, but it is also the barrier. This is a fragrance for someone who enjoys being enveloped by thick, sweet amber and opoponax, yet it can feel heavy and cloying to anyone who wants a transparent or airy floral. The spice never fully recedes into the background, and the beeswax leaves a thick, sticky impression that some will find too much. If you need a light, breezy touch, this composition will simply exhaust you.
