Our take

It opens with a sticky, almost liturgical haze of benzoin and balsams, each resin catching light like honey on stained glass. The Peru and Tolu balsams lend a dusky sweetness, but not the kind that cloys; this is a dark, cathedral sweetness, powdered with vanilla and a ghost of animalic ambergris that keeps things from falling into dessert territory. As it develops, the opoponax and guaiac wood thread a gentle smokiness through the vanilla, and the leather note emerges not as a raw hide but as the worn, polished arm of an antique reading chair. The overall character is that of a velvet-lined cabinet kept shut for decades: rich, slightly dusty, deeply comforting. Sillage is admittedly restrained, hovering close like a cashmere scarf pulled tight, and longevity is decent at around five hours before it melts into skin. This is not a fragrance that announces itself, and for that reason it suits someone who wears perfume for themselves rather than for the room. It feels natural and coherent, leaning into the opulent end of niche without being avant-garde. Wear it on a cold Sunday afternoon when wool sweaters and old books feel right, or during a quiet evening where the only company is a fireplace and a glass of something amber. If you need a loud sillage bomb or a bright citrus, this is not your prayer. But for those who love resinous warmth and a scent that feels like a secret, Le Regent is a perfectly worn leather binding holding its breath.
