Our take

Raw Gold opens with a boozy, peppered plum that snaps like a wet leather belt, coffee and vetiver smoldering underneath before the heart turns into a curious duel of suede and lipstick. The lipstick note is the surprise here, a waxy, cosmetic iris-like powder that softens the leather into something almost tender, but then the base answers back with opoponax, civet, and saffron, turning the sweetness sticky and animalic. It dries into a warm, ambered patchouli that clings to skin like a second layer of hide.

This is a fragrance that feels deliberately synthetic in the best way, like a vinyl couch in a dimly lit lounge, slick and plush. It is heavy, sweet, and musky, with a powdery edge that keeps it from tipping into pure brutishness. The longevity is solid, well above average, and the sillage is moderate, which is wise, because if this projected any harder it would become exhausting. It is undeniably niche, built for a specific mood, not for everyone.

Who should wear it? Someone who wants to smell like they just climbed out of a vintage convertible after a night of questionable decisions, still wearing last evening’s smudged lipstick. Skip it if you prefer clean, airy scents or if animalic notes make you flinch. Best worn in cold weather, fall and winter, and far better at night than day. Why ruin the mystery with sunlight?
