Lemon zest and bitter orange blossom open Après l'Amour on a sharp, slightly bitter citrus note that flares and steps back within moments. Thomas Kosmala built the fragrance around a broad aromatic spice accord rather than named individual spices, giving the heart a warm, undefined heat that resists being pinned to any single ingredient. That vagueness works in its favor, adding a sense of mystery to the whole heart.
Musk, amber and woody notes take over for most of the wear, animalic and dense, powdery at the edges but never soft. The base is tenacious almost to a fault, the kind of scent still findable on a sweater pulled from the back of the closet. The sillage carries readily, leaving a trace that lingers in a doorway after you've walked through, especially once the citrus has faded and only the dense base remains.
Fall and winter are its best seasons, when the animalic musk and amber feel proportionate to the cold air. What stands out most is the density, dense, a little feral, and built to last, the kind of fragrance you remember on a coat long after the person who wore it has left.
