You lift a hand to turn a page and catch the scent of lemon zest and bitter orange blossom drifting from your wrist. Aromatic spices sit close to the skin, bright but softened by the stillness of the space. The air feels settled, the kind of pause that invites you to stay exactly where you are without checking the time.
As the hours pass in that same chair, the citrus steps back and the room fills with amber and musk. The warmth feels personal, like a sweater worn for three days straight, carrying a powdery softness that brushes against the woody accord. There is a green thread running through it, subtle and slightly animalic, keeping the sweetness from becoming a flat line. It smells like a person who has been reading in the same spot since breakfast, surrounded by old paper and steeped tea.
The amber deepens until it feels like the only thing in the room, a golden haze that sticks to the wool and the wooden floorboards. Musk wraps around the spices one last time, blurring the edges of the scent until it is more atmosphere than perfume, the kind of warmth that makes the windowpane and the streetlights beyond it feel very far away, the book resting open on your knee while the air
