Sève Nouvelle
Fragrance notes
Character
Sève Nouvelle opens with a sharp, almost grating pinch of saffron and pink pepper, the grapefruit barely cutting through before the whole thing softens into a humid floral-spice haze. The champaca is the star here, but it’s a waxy, slightly metallic bloom, not a fresh one, and the water pepper adds a prickly greenness that keeps the tonka bean from turning syrupy. On skin, it dries down into a cozy but blurry base of cashmirwood and labdanum, the patchouli lurking like a dusty velvet curtain. The overall image is a crushed flower left on a hot sidewalk: pretty, but bruised and a little synthetic around the edges. It feels more niche in ambition than in execution, with a sweetness that leans heavy yet stays strangely flat, and the modest longevity and sillage (both hovering near 3.7) mean you’ll be reapplying if you want it to last through a whole evening. This is a spring and fall scent through and through, ideal for a cool, overcast afternoon when you want something warm but not cloying. It suits someone who likes their florals tempered with spice and doesn’t mind a bit of artificial shimmer. Skip it if you crave crisp naturals or high-impact projection. It’s a solid middle-of-the-road oriental that does its job without ever surprising you.
