Our take

Lime and grapefruit cut through thick incense at the start, bright and sharp against the dark resin. Indian oud appears immediately, heavy and medicinal, supported by Amalfi lemon that adds a sunlit edge to the smoke. The opening feels like standing near a wood-fired oven while holding a fresh citrus peel. Cypriol and guaiac wood enter the heart with a dry, mineral earthiness. Patchouli adds a damp, forest-floor quality that grounds the brighter top notes. Oud repeats here, deeper and less sharp than in the first minutes, wrapping around the woods like a heavy cloak. Labdanum and bourbon vanilla warm the base, but the vanilla stays quiet and does not turn the blend sweet. Sandalwood and cedar give the drydown a polished, carved-wood texture. Hedione lifts the heavier materials just enough to keep the air around them moving.

The air is cold and the sky is low, the kind of morning that makes a heavy coat feel necessary. Smoke and amber fit that stillness perfectly, sitting close to the skin like a familiar wool scarf. The woods feel carved and permanent, matching the mood of a quiet street after rain. Hans Georg Staudt built a composition that stays rooted in resin and earth, offering no bright escape from its own density. It is a scent for the person who walks outside first on a gray morning and enjoys the weight of the air. Wear it when the day begins with frost on the windows and the house is quiet.
